This is one of the olden food, prepared by our grand parents, now a days many of us dos'nt know this recepie, bit time taking process also. But now ready made sasthralu are available in markets, they are dried and sold out, they resemble like semiya (vermicelli) but thin in texture comparatively.. they are boiled in water and then cooked by draining water completely and fried as an break fast, snack, even sweet can be prepared using this..


INGREDIENTS: 2 Cups of boiled rice (uppudu biyyam), 2 cups of raw rice (pachi biyyam), Salt as required, Pinch of Cooking soda,  Avalu (mustard seeds), Jeera (cumin seeds), Lemon juice, Green chillies, Onions, Turmeric, Coriander, Curry leaves, Urad dal (vudhipappu), Chenna dal (bengal gram / senagapappu)


PREPARATION:
  • Soak boiled rice and raw rice in water for 3 hours
  • Grind them into thick batter using little water
  • Let this batter ferment (nanabatadam) for 1 night or 7-8 hours
  • Take requires amount of batter into bowl, add pinch of salt and cooking soda, mix well
  • Keep them in idly stand and steam cook for 12 minutes
  • Take out place them in sasthralu machine (available in markets)
  • Press them into sasthralu , make such with all the Idlies prepared
  • Place kadai on flame, heat 3-4 spoons of oil
  • Add avalu, jeera, urad dal, chenna dal, curry leaves and fry
  • Add cut onions, green chillies and fry till light brown
  • Add turmeric, salt, sasthralu and fry for few minutes
  • Off flame, add lemon, chopped coriander and mix
  • Dish out and serve
  • Tastes good as it is or serve using legumes powder (pappula podi)
